Lameka’s Breastfeeding Story

August is National Breastfeeding Month, one of our favorite months to celebrate at MBRC! We encourage all of our participants to breastfeed with the goal of exclusive breastfeeding up to age 6 months, as recommended by the World Health Organization and the American Association of Pediatricians.

One of our breastfeeding moms shared her story with us:

My journey with breastfeeding has been the best experience for me. I wish I would have done it completely with my oldest two kids. I pumped a little with my oldest and straight formula with my second. My family hasn’t been as supportive but I have a great support system pertaining to Southeast hospital, New Madrid Wic, and of course you all. My bond with my son is unbelievable, I love it. He is getting the best milk. I have encouraged others to do the same. You know what all is in his milk because your body is producing it. Plus it doesn’t take much to put him to sleep either. I’ve actually gotten back down to size because I still nurse. I weighed 206 lbs when I went in to have him and now I’m down to 164 lbs.”

She isn’t the only mom to see weight loss associated with breastfeeding –

Recent studies also show a link between breastfeeding and an easier time at bedtime –
