Missouri Bootheel Healthy Start is dedicated to reducing the rate of infant mortality, and to improving the health and well-being of infants and their families in Dunklin, Mississippi, New Madrid, Pemiscot, and Scott counties. MBHS places emphasis on reducing disparities in infant mortality rates among racially and socio-economically diverse groups.
We seek to accomplish our goals by offering in-home case management, outreach services, education and training, and community mobilization programs for consumers and providers in our service area.
About Missouri Bootheel Healthy Start (MBHS) Missouri Bootheel Healthy Start is a leading force in the empowerment of entire families in the region, assisting them in taking control of their own health, and in continuously enhancing the quality of their own lives.
MBHS was established in 1997 through a grant funded by the Healthy Start Initiative of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Maternal and Child Health Bureau. Missouri Bootheel Regional Consortium, Inc. is the grantee.
MBHS is not a direct provider of health care services, but offers comprehensive, in-home case management services to at-risk pregnant women, and women with children under age two, to ensure that they receive adequate prenatal and postnatal care from direct providers.
Program staff members also provide education and training on the communities' infant health issues to social service agencies and health care professionals.
MBHS values community partnerships, and has established relationships with various regional, state, and national agencies. |
